Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy Students and faculty learn about Rwanda’s history and transformation model
On Wednesday 22nd June, Amb. Emmanuel Hategeka received Post-Graduate Diploma cohort and faculty members at Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy in Abu Dhabi who visited the embassy to learn about Rwanda’s history, culture, governance and development model. Amb. Hategeka gave a lecture including videos covering pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial Rwanda as well as modern day Rwanda post the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The Ambassador told the delegation that, under the visionary leadership of H.E President Paul Kagame, Rwanda’s transformation post 1994 was catalyzed by three big choices: Unity, Accountability and Thinking Big. He added that people’s participation, dialogue and consultation among parties are traits of Rwanda’s model that transformed the country.
Reflecting on the transformation journey over the last 28, Ambassador Hategeka explained Rwanda registered remarkable progress including security, average economic growth of 7.8% p.a, poverty reduction, free primary and secondary education, improved healthcare, ease of doing business, booming tourism with visa on arrival for all and many more.
On students’ question about Rwanda’s Foreign Policy, the Ambassador said that Rwanda has established itself as a reliable global partner, in pursuit of peace, security and stability as well as wealth creation through development cooperation.
On Rwanda-UAE relations, Amb. Hategeka said “Our two countries enjoy excellent relations based on principles of mutual trust and win-win collaboration in areas of trade and investment, technology and education among others.”
